I thought I’d update you all on what my first month of pre season training has been like.

I’ve spent the past 4 weeks in Falls Creek in the Victorian High Country which sits around 1700m. We’ve been coming here for the past 4 years at this time of year so I know it well. Its about a 7 hour drive from Wollongong but lucky for me its only a couple of hours from my hometown in East Gippsland.

IMG_2624We mainly focus on running during our time there and Falls is perfect for it. There are kilometres of endless trails… Hilly, flat, rocky, windy, grassy, muddy…. you name it! Whatever type of run you feel like you’ll find it.

I ride about 4 times a week – and its a mixture of the road (which is either nice rolling hills or climbing a mountain!) or on the rollers/ergo. We swim 4 times  a week 30km’s down the mountain in Mount Beauty in a beautiful outdoor 33m pool. Our swimming at this time of year is mainly strength/technique based.

A typical Friday is like this :DSC01065

0800 : 20 min easy run

1030 : 5km Strength/pull swim

1500 : 40 minute gym session

1730 : 60 min Tempo Run session

My first month back training went great for me – both my body and mind were healthy and happy . There were only 4 of us there this time around (Myself, Aaron Royle, Ryan Bailie & Jake Birtwhistle) so it was a little quieter than normal.

I’m home now for Christmas and New Year and then will head backup to Falls Creek for another 3 week stint and this time the rest of the Wollongong Wizards will be joining us! I’m looking forward to building on what I’ve done up there as I start to prepare myself for 2015. Next year is going to be a big one and I’m super excited for what is to come!

Thank you so much for the support over the past year. Although 2014 wasn’t exactly what I’d hoped for, the lessons I’ve learnt and the disappointment I had is already turning itself into a positive. Roll on 2015!
